PS5 Pro vs. PS5-GPU: A Substantial Boost
AMD RDNA 2 is featured in PS5 Pro as PS5 originally. PS5 is added with more computing units.
PS5 GPU: RDNA 2 GPU with 36 compute units (CUs) is used in PS5, which provides 2,304 streaming multiprocessors. Roughly same as AMD Radeon RX 6700, able to run 4K games.
PS5 Pro GPU: Sony claims the PS5 Pro will feature 67% more compute units. It means 60 CUs and 3,840 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) will be provided in PS5 Pro. Roughly similar to AMD Radeon RX 6800.
Ray Tracing: Next-Level Realism
Nvidia was leading in Ray tracing, but this new AMD GPU has better ray tracing. It means games will be more realistic with better shadows, realistic lighting, and reflection.
Performance Impact
Up to 45% increase in performance is expected with new GPU. The PS5 Pro’s enhanced GPU silicon isn’t a generational leap, but it’s a big step forward for a mid-cycle refresh.
Storage & Memory: Faster, But Not Bigger
SSD: Surprisingly, the PS5 Pro uses same technology as PS5. But SSDs become faster and screen loading time also reduced.
Memory: The 16GB GDDR6 unified system RAM remains the same, but the speed actually increased. Sony claims the Pro’s memory bandwidth is 28% faster, clocking in at 560GB/s compared to the PS5’s 440GB/s. This will enhance 4K gaming experience.
AI-Based Upscaling: PSSR
One of the biggest improvements for the PS5 Pro is in AI-based upscaling. PlayStation Spatial Super Resolution (PSSR), a more advanced AI algorithm designed to deliver sharper and more detailed upscaled visuals without sacrificing performance, is added to PS5 Pro version.
Games Enhanced for PS5 Pro
First of all, PS5 Pro will feature all games on PS4 and PS5. Some games are enhanced for PS5 Pro to give a better experience to the user. These games are approved to be enhanced in PS5 pro.
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
- Demon’s Souls
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7
CPU
8-core Zen 2 processor, which is more than sufficient for handling modern games used in PS5 pro. 4K gaming places most of the load on the GPU rather than the CPU. Therefore, no significant update is added to the CPU for PS5 Pro.
Price and Release Date
Sony hasn’t officially confirmed a release date, but the expected date of release of the PS5 Pro is December 2024. Pre-booking will start from September last days or may be October.
price of PS5 Pro is almost $700. Which is $200 more than PS5. This increase in price is justified by Sony as new AI touch and technology advances are provided.
Conclusion: Is the PS5 Pro Worth the Upgrade?
The PS5 Pro’s 45% boost in performance is mostly attributable to its faster memory and enhanced GPU.It will be very helpful to gamers who are looking for the best graphics and performance. If you prefer playing games that are tuned for the Pro or are seeking for 4K gaming that runs smoother and has more quality, it’s definitely something to consider when it launches.
