OpenAI the parent company of ChatGPT bought Chat.com and made its collection of high-profile domain names more valuable.
Chat.com is going to redirect to openAI’s chatgpt.com. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the acquisition via email.
History of Chat.com
Chat.com was registered in September 1996 for the very first time. HubSpot co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah got the chat.com in 2023 for $15.5 million. It was in one of the most expensive domains of all time.
Chat.com to OpenAI
Dharmesh Shah said that he sold the domain to an unknown buyer. Now he on X, revealed that OpenAI was the buyer of Chat.com, and he was paid in terms of OpenAI shares.
As ChatGPT is not changed to Chat.com. So this is a confirmation from Open AI that there is no brand change for ChatGPT. Moreover, OpenAI does not give any statement about the price they paid for chat.com.
